Foster City's Future!

San Mateo County Times, San Mateo Daily News and The Examiner endorse Dr. Huijun Ring for Foster City's Council

San Mateo Daily Journal

San Mateo Daily News stated in its editorial that:

“…We think Ring should join the two incumbents on the next council because of her impressive background and her obvious interest in serving the community.

Ring holds a doctorate in molecular biology from Cornell University and cites her management experience at various local technology companies, including SRI International. She is also active in various local groups, which includes being a founding member of the Foster City High School Foundation. Not surprisingly, she is a strong advocate for a public high school in the city.

Pledging to be green, Ring promises to promote city involvement in a program that allows residents to drop off unused medications to keep them out of a landfill or our water and suggests forming an environmental citizens advisory committee, among other things. Ring has big plans and the energy and the ambition to see them through.

We think Ring's drive will complement the experience of Koelling and Wykoff and we urge voters to support the three in November.”

San Mateo County Times

San Mateo County Times stated in its editorial that:

“… Of the non-incumbents running, Huijun Ring is a standout. Ring is a strong supporter of the charter school — she's actually a co-founder of the effort to bring it to the site near City Hall. Beyond that, she strikes us as well-positioned to bring fresh ideas to the table — especially when it comes to environmental issues. Just one vignette from our meeting with the candidates: Ring called for Foster City to participate in the program by which residents turn in expired drugs for disposal, instead of flushing them down the toilet and into the Bay. A growing number of county cities are participating, but Koelling and Wykoff had barely even heard of it.

While there is no doubting the passion and commitment of the other candidates in this contest, some lack experience and others, while knowledgeable enough, would simply bring "more of the same" to the council.

We urge the voters to elect Koelling, Wykoff and Ring to the City Council.”

Key Endorsements for Dr. Huijun Ring for City Council include California State Senator Leland Yee, State Assembly Member Gene Mullin, San Mateo County Supervisor Jerry Hill, Former Foster City Mayors Russ Harter, Eileen Larsen, Dave Kruss and Jim Lawrence, Current and Former School Board Trustees Cathy Rincon, Peter Hanley, Charles Perry and Phyllis Moore, Sierra Club, Democratic Party San Mateo County, Central Labor Council AFL-CIO San Mateo County, Filipino American Democratic Club of San Mateo County, San Mateo County Association of Realtors, California Apartment Association-Tri-County Division, San Mateo County Times and San Mateo Daily News.

Dr. Ring held a public discussion on environmental issues in Foster City

Dr. Ring discussed a wide range of environmental issues with participants in Foster City’s Community Bike Ride on Sunday September 16th at Boothbay Park. Discussion topics included forming a citizen advisory committee on the environment, encouraging increased recycling and waste reduction by both businesses and residents, establishing pharmaceutical drop-off locations within Foster City to properly discard expired medications, control and abatement of over-flying aircraft noise, and urging Foster City to sign the U.S. Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement- which the Council formally declined in 2006 and has already been signed by Foster City’s neighbors in Burlingame, Hayward, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Francisco, and San Mateo.

Dr. Huijun Ring received the endorsement of the state’s most respected environmental organization, the Sierra Club, for her Foster City Council candidacy.
